Sex

Finding Focus...Even In Our Romantic Relationships

(Excerpted from Stress Point: Thriving Through Your Twenties in a Decade of Drama by Sarah Francis Martin. Published by Thomas Nelson, Inc. ©2012. Used with permission.)

Jesus is explicit regarding what He expects of us and where our daily, moment-by-moment focus should be. When asked about His greatest commandment, Jesus replied: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).

This applies as much to dating as to every other facet of our lives. Every issue we encounter with regard to the opposite sex should be bounced off these questions:

Do I still love my God with my whole heart, soul, and mind?

Is my boyfriend doing the same?

By using this standard as our barometer for future activities with men, we’ll not only please the Lord but prevent untold heartache as well. When we focus on Him, our priorities in dating will align themselves without a struggle.

When we train our focus on God and His Word in this area, we also come to recognize traits the Bible lays out for how a husband should love his wife. The Bible is unequivocal on this issue. Although its guidelines don’t pertain to the dating relationship per se, we do receive from its pages clear guidance on what we should be able to expect from our godly boyfriends. If there’s one phrase to which I return again and again when talking to my girlfriends, it’s this: Don’t settle for less.

I’ve had several friend accept their boyfriends’ non-committal attitudes and press on in hopes that their men might change.

When we’re in a continual state of communication with Jesus, we know in our hearts that this non-committal behavior on the part of the men in our lives doesn’t cut it and that it’s time for us to move on. But if we’re out of tune with the Lord’s guidance, we may well have no clue that a relationship of this quality isn’t what God has planned for our lives. If we want to move from a troubled relationship to one that both thrills and fulfills us, we need to take the first step of allowing the Lord to lead us.

Walk for Freedom

Did you know that one of the fastest growing crimes in the world is Human Trafficking? Human Trafficking, or modern day slavery, is said to produce a $9 billion profit for those involved.  There are more people in slavery today than at any other time in history and it is reported that 25% of all US trafficking victims are in Texas. Defined, Human Trafficking is the recruitment, smuggling, transporting, harboring, buying or selling of an individual through force, threats, deception, or coercion for the purposes of exploitation, prostitution, pornography, migrant work, domestic servitude, forced labor, bondage, or involuntary servitude.

Around the world, millions of individuals are living in bondage; laboring in fields, homes or factories and threatened with violence if they try to break free.  Some are forced to work in brothels or as prostitutes and beggars on the street fearful of the consequence of missing their daily quota.  Others are taken to foreign countries where they are unfamiliar with the language and culture.  Most exist with the relentless terror that the lives of their families will be susceptible to danger if they try to escape.

Child trafficking is on the rise and involves the business of removing children from the safety net of their homes, families and friends. They are often transported within the country or overseas, to be put to use by others and usually to make money.

Stop Child Trafficking Now is an organization that targets the source of child sex trafficking.  While several organizations address child trafficking by performing rescue operations, SCTNow has chosen to fund a bold, new approach.  They partner with specially trained elite operatives who are familiar with what it takes to infiltrate, investigate and bring to justice those who victimize children.  Their aim is to address the demand side of child trafficking by targeting the buyers and predators who actually drive the sex industry around the world, including in your own local community.

You can get involved in the abolishment of trafficking children by participating in one of the upcoming national SCTNow Walk Campaigns.  Communities all over the US are coming together on the weekend of October 2-3 to raise funds, bring awareness and end the trafficking of children.

For details on partnering in an upcoming SCT Now community walk please go to www.sctnow.com and click on ‘walks’.  If you live in the Austin, TX area, please join us at Triangle Park at 46th and Guadalupe on October 2nd @ 8 a.m., for the 2nd Annual Stop Child Trafficking Now walk.

The Created Woman is informed.  And, in the words of SCT Now's founder, Lynette Lewis, she provides a 'voice for the vulnerable'.  She will rise up and take a stand for those in need and is passionate about making a difference in the world around her.

Sex and the City 2, the movie, the fashion!

Sex and the City….nothing else comes to mind when I hear those words but Fashion, Fashion, Glorious Fashion and of course the city that never sleeps, New York City!  Two of my favorite things! If you haven’t seen the new movie trailer for Sex and the City 2, well what are you waiting for!  Thriving with anticipation, I couldn’t help but to google those four little words in search of the Austin city girls ultimate chick flick.  Then with just one click of the mouse, both of my favorite things came alive for me in an instant! Suddenly there is was!  The sound of that magical song by Mrs.Alicia Keys and Jay-Z, ‘Empire State of Mind’ made so popular by our favorite Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter began to pulse through my computer.  My heart pounded with anticipation growing with every beat of the drum…..then…..bum, bum, bum, bum ‘In New York’.  The fashion, the girls, the city!

It’s all there!  Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha, they’re all there and they’re all fabulous!  And who can forget Mr. Big! But most of all, my favorite character in the whole movie appeared, the clothes!  She is marvelous! Sex and the City Movie Website With my notebook in hand, I will walk out of the theatre on premier night with, if nothing more, my spring/summer shopping list just like so many of us.  Oh the inspiration! I am absolutely positive that Patricia Field, Sex in the City’s wardrobe stylist, will hit the bulls eye making fashion history but once again in our favorite sequel! Patricia, whose visionary creativity for SATC on HBO raised the bar for television glamour, is my hero in the world of fashion stylist! The best news of all is if you want to be really ready for the premier, visit Patricia’s website for some of the trends that you will actually see in the movie to buy yourself! From a $19 Sex and the City T-shirt to the FRANZ style Gold sunglass that Carrie wears for a mere $525 – it’s all there for the taking.  Even the cute, vintage shape white dress that I am sure we have all seen Carrie wearing in all the promotional pictures is available for those who dare to try! But, back to the girls; they are more beautiful than ever which gives us 30 something’s a lot to look forward to!  But while some of us can see a little bit ourselves in each one  them and other’s just don’t understand all the rave, we all love the bond they share as girlfriends and that’s what grabs our hearts making us fall in love with them all over again. So make sure you save the date for May 27th and call your favorite girlfriends because, if just for that one night, it’s all about the girls!  And jus like the movie trailer tells us, ‘Discover how much fun forbidden can be!’ and fandango those tickets!  Sarah Jessica Parker or, shall we say Carrie….here we come!
