Havin' Fun in the Summer Time - Austin Style

I’m looking forward to this Saturday.  Me and my friend Stacy Cook are going to have some summer fun in Austin.  It’s our way of making sure we are “keeping Austin weird.”  :)  We’re starting out the day with lunch at Beets Café.  Beets is a living foods café.  It’s a vegan restaurant that has gluten free selections as well.  We’ve heard great things about it, but this will actually be our first time at this restaurant.  One of my newest favorites is Snack Bar Austin on South Congress.  The Bulgogi BBQ Sliders are absolutely phenomenal!

There are two outdoor activities I love doing: kayaking and hiking.  Stacy Cook and I have embarked on these two activities in Austin for the last 6 years.

After lunch, we are going kayaking on Lady Bird Lake.  There are two spots we like to kayak from: Texas Rowing Center  and Zilker Park Boat Rentals.  Both spots are great to kayak from and the people that work there are helpful and fun.  There are lots of turtles, ducks, and fellow kayakers on Lady Bird Lake.  I love it because you get a great workout, a tan (of course you need to put on your share fair of sunscreen and always reapply), and lots of Austin sites to behold.

Hiking is always an adventure.  You never know what you’re going to see or the type of terrain you’re going to encounter until you truly get on the trail.  The Barton Creek Greenbelt has trails for anyone no matter what fitness level you are at.  If you want a strenuous hike, check out the Hill of Life trail.  For something a little easier, Wild Basin trail off of highway 360 is easy breezy.

Summer in Austin is a great time.  So grab a girlfriend or go with yourself, because yourself is a great person to be around!  Whatever you do, take time to make memories.

Dress to Impress on V-day

Getting ready for V-Day? I am! I just love the occasion to get all dressed up and go out. But the most important question here is, "what the heck am I going to wear"?!? Whether you have a hot date planned or going to the Bobby Bones Singles Mingle event, you need something fabulous! There are ALOT of different options in dresses, so whatever style you are this year I am sure these ideas will help you get you started!  The Belmont Flirt – For this look, the color options are endless. Just stick to solid colors and think short and flow-y.

Spring Anyone?

Living in a (usually) sunny city like Austin I get so excited about the spring for several reasons…

  1. Coffee at Joe’s on South Congress then a quick trip to Whole Foods for a famous Big John cookie.
  2. Sundresses from Goodie Two Shoes.
  3. Running on Lady Bird Lake (formerly, Town Lake). It’s a good thing too because in a mere 7 weeks is the Capital 10K!!! If you’ve never done the Capital 10K I highly recommend it. This 6.2 mile run is full of fun costumes (someone has to keep Austin weird!), local bands, and lots of yummy treats waiting for you at the finish line .

Next step…researching a training program…let me know if you know of a good one and wish me luck!
