Green With Envy

Envy --- "the green eyed monster," as it has often been called, silently invades the hearts of mankind. Unlike the outward destructive acts listed in Galatians 5:19-21, such as murder, drunkeness, witchcraft, and adultery; envy sits silently on the heart, discoloring it as green as bile.

What is the root cause of envy?  The answer to that is found in its definition:  discontentment and resentment of another's success, advantages, and superiority.

Is it any wonder why it tries to remain silent?  A heart filled with envy doesn't want anyone to know it is begruding what someone else has achieved or possessed.  Instead, it sits there silently thinking, "what they have should have been mine!"

In his speech in Othello, Iago summed it up this way:  "Beware, my Lord, of jealousy.  It is the green eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on!"

This website is devoted to encourage women to become all that God created them to be.  Could it be that getting rid of envy is God's way of saying:  "Desire what I want for you, instead of what somebody else has in their possession."

Excuse me while I check a quiet knocking I hear at my heart's door.

Editor's Note, October 2011

Life experiences, trials and joy lead us to be the woman we are today and sometimes that woman is exactly who we were created to be.  Our experiences mold us, inspire us; some teach us about priorities by showing us what things we should do today and which ones we should wait on.  With life pulling us in so many directions and opportunities, it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle, loosing ourselves in the  routine of life, never stopping to smell the roses.  We miss the good things in life often because of our task at hand.  Lots of times, we miss the opportunity to help someone who needs exactly what we have by simply not lifting our heads from our blackberry.  But sometimes, as women, we band together shouting with one voice yelling, ‘Enough is enough.’  And when we do that, the world listens! Women around the world have yelled loudly for the cause of Breast Cancer and the results have been astounding.  The month of October is nationally known as Breast Cancer Awareness month and I can’t think of a better theme for Created Woman Blogazine for the month October.  As women, we are poised to be each other’s cheerleaders – not the enemy.  So as we look out into the first cool month of the year, I charge each of you to be the cheerleader in someone’s life that is facing, not just breast cancer, but any type of cancer that has tried to consume their life.

For the October issue of Created Woman, we will hear stories of triumph over trials as well as re-visit some heroines from last year and catch up with what they are doing today.  Their personal stories of conquest will inspire you to go beyond what you ever thought you could achieve.  Plus, just as fashion makes everything look better, we’ll show you ways fashion can actually help fight the cause.

As much as we enjoy sharing our life with you, hearing your stories are just as important to us.  Your comments and emails allow us to have a conversation with you, our friends.  Tell us what you’re thinking, share what inspires you, how you are becoming the woman you were created to be!

Thank you as always, for being a part of the Created Woman Blogazine, and enjoy becoming and being the woman you were created to be!

The Pink Ladies

No, Pink Ladies doesn't mean the cute and popular singing gang led by tough Rizzo in the 1970's movie Grease.  As I little girl, however, I did always long to be Stephanie in Grease II and sing on a tall ladder "Cool Rider" as I transformed my pink lady jacket into a tough, black shiny jacket as the man of my dreams watched with desire!  But, even though my dream never came true, I still can be Pink Lady, just of a different kind.  The difference is this type of Pink Lady is a  more powerful one than I ever could have imagined!

This year as we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness, we all can play a part by simply wearing the color pink just to draw attention to the cause.  There's also some clever ways you can donate your resources to research while you stock your closet and accessorize you home.

So ladies, it's time to become a Pink Lady!

Kohls Simply by Vera Wang is another designer who has created a line with all proceeds going to research.  This simple pink ribbon that can be purchased for only $5 and be worn everyday as we honor our heros.

So sing any song you want be it "Cool Rider" or "Pink Cadillac" but be a Pink Lady this month and support our Heros who are fighting and have surived Breast Cancer.

True Guilt vs. False Guilt

Picture this courtroom scene:  The jury comes into the courtroom and take their seats.

Judge to Woman"Will the defendant please rise?"  (A frail looking woman stands up with her head bowed; her shoulders slumped.)

Judge to Foreman:  "Mr. Foreman, has the jury reached a verdict?"

Foreman:  "We have, your Honor.  The charges brought against the defendant are:

  • Count #1 - Her past sinful life
  • Count #2 - Not making others happy
  • Count #3 - Not meeting people's expectations of her
  • Count #4 - Being a Working Mom
  • Count #5 - The cause of her divorce
  • Count #6 - Saying "no" to volunteer work at her church.

On each of these charges, we find the defendant GUILTY as charged!

Judge to Woman:  I now sentence you to life in prison where you will serve out the remaining years of your life in misery.  (And with that, the frail woman was lead bound and shackled out of the courtroom to begin her life sentence.)

Obviously, those charges are not ones you would find in a court of law, but they are charges, plus countless more, that women have had levied against them.  As a result, they live a life of misery in their own self-made prison.

"I personally have been there, done that," as the saying does.  Guilt comes with excruciating pain that penetrates deep inside the human spirit.  My feelings of guilt resulted in a loss of self-respect, insecurity, and a sense of unworthiness.

While in my self-made prison, I read a book entitled:  "Happiness is a Choice"  by Drs. Frank Minirth and Paul Meier.  Their explanation of True Guilt vs. False Guilt caught my eye.

TRUE GUILT is the uncomfortable inner awareness that one has violated a moral law of God.  It is produced partially by the conviction of God's Holy Spirit, and partially by our own conscience.  True guilt is valuable.  God uses it to influence us to change our minds about behavior that is wrong, so we can be in closer fellowship with Him.

FALSE GUILT is feeling guilty for something that in reality does not violate any of the laws of God.  Another way of saying that is feelings that come as a result of the judgments and opinions of others, or from a judgment that we have wrongfully imposed upon ourselves.  False guilt send messages to our inward being that shouts:  "You've failed!"   "You'll never amount to anything."  "You blew it."  "It's all your fault!"

And so it was, I did a whole lot of soul searching and made a list of all the things that were plaguing me with guilt.  I asked forgiveness of those things God was gently showing me were indeed, True Guilt---things that were hindering my relationship with Him.  I took the remainder of that list, threw it in the garbage can, and let it take a ride on the garbage truck.  I then walked out of my prison cell a free woman.

My case of "False Guilt" had been taken all the way to the Supreme Court of the Universe, Almighty God, and He dismissed the charges against me.

Do you need to come out of your self-made prison?  It will free you to become the Created Woman God designed you to be----minus the heavy load of guilt!
