What Get's in the Way of God's Will?

God's will for our life - haven't we all prayed that at least 1,000 times in our life?

I recently shared in a blog that it is in our quiet time with the Lord when He begins to show us the plans He has for our life. I believe that God has called each of us for a specific purpose in sharing the Gospel.  He has given us gifts and talents to be used for His glory. But, often times there are things that I allow to get in the way of God's will for my life each day.  For example:

The Word, "Purpose"

It sounds so big and impossible to comprehend. Can't we all get caught up in thinking that "purpose" means something so big for someone else, but our purpose comes when we use our God-given talents, and the time He has given us in our every day relationships.  I get caught up sometimes in thinking it has to be big when the “who” and “what” is right in from of me. To be honest, as I am writing this, I am taking a time out from my son right in front of me. Trust me; we both needed a timeout from each other. But, I know that my relationship and time with him today is my purpose.

Fear

What if I fail?  What if I don't get all of the answers?  What if I am not good enough?  What if it does not work?  What if others think I am crazy or judge me?  What if no one notices?  What if I don't get what I want?  I have asked myself all those questions at one time or another. The voice of fear can paralyze us from moving forward and doing what we are to do at that very moment.  We must remember that courage is not the absence of fear; it is moving out, despite fear and trusting the Lord.

Time

"I don't have time," can be a quick comeback that, honestly, is just an excuse for my selfishness. I am learning that when I honor God with my time, it is pointed toward His will for me that day. Not giving of our time or staying so busy doing the "almost right thing," can block the real purpose God intended for our life.

Yes, there are so many other things that keep us from living out God's will each day.  The enemy knows the right button to push for each of us personally.  But, I believe that fear, not feeling adequate and misusing our time can be the biggest obstacles of fulfilling God's will each day.

Today, I want to encourage you, as I look at myself, to notice the “what” and “who” right in front of you. May we ask the Lord to use our time to deepen that relationship and give despite any fears that have been holding us back. Seeking more of God's word, and His will for our life keeps us healthy and fit on the inside as He directs our steps.

Examine me, God, from head to foot.  Order your battery of tests. Make sure I’m fit inside and out. (Psalms 26:2; MSG)
