Netflix and Ice cream was not the answer

Years ago, I memorized it and spoke about it to every woman I met. It became a scripture which was tucked away because I felt I was living a peaceful life.

Then bam!  Recently, little things have begun to creep into my thoughts causing an uneasy feeling with a lack of peace.  Was it the reality of my firstborn starting high school, tension between a friend, a change and unknown in my business?  How about all of the above?  The feeling of being unsettled in so many areas of my life, led to insecurity and worry.  I decided to take a break from it all with a Netflix binge and ice cream.....just being real.

But then, while praying one morning, this verse that I had tucked away quickly came to my memory.  It was Psalms 34:14 which says,

"Seek peace and pursue it."

You see, I had to remember that peace does not just happen.  We must be intentional in seeking it out. Although, I had been consistently in God's word each day, it had become a routine instead of diligently praying the promises of His Word.  It was time for me to seek what He had to say to me regarding the things that were causing the uneasy tension in my heart.

Through God's word and promises, I began to feel confidence knowing He was in charge of all of the things that lay before. The avoidance method with a Netflix binge was not the answer.  It was the active pursuit of true peace.

What about you?  Do you look for a temporary fix to find peace?  Maybe it is with a Netflix binge, hours of social media, food, shopping, or extreme exercise.  How could it be different if you actively pursued more of God's word in your life today?

May we find encouragement today and remember the words of Jesus in John 14:27.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

It is in the quiet, peaceful moments with God, He reveals himself to us with a confidence in our future and who we are in Him.

Personal Reflection:

Would you take a moment to reflect and ask yourself.

  1. What is my go to for a temporary fix when feeling worried?"
  2. What could I do to seek more peace?
  3. If I did, how might things be different for me?
