Are You Holding on or is He?

"The Lord directs the steps of the Godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand," Psalm 37:23. I love watching reunions at airports. There's just something about the build up for that one moment when people go nuts at seeing a loved one they maybe haven't seen in a while.

As I was waiting for my plane, I saw a little boy run to his father yelling, "Daddy!" and then proceeded to jump in his arms.

The hugs and kisses to follow seemed endless. Eventually they wore off and when they did, the little boy began acting as most excited children do, jumping all over the place. All the while, hes' still holding on to his dad.

In the midst of one of his over exuberant leaps of rambunctious joy, he nearly slipped. And what I thought first  was the child hanging on to his dad, was really the father holding on to his son. He didn't fall. Although he slipped, he kept right on moving...held tightly and confidently in his father's grip.

The revelation of God's own grasp of me, not the other way around, was overwhelming. I don't have to fight to hang on to God. Because I'm His child, He's the one responsible for holding on to me.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for always holding on, even when I don't always feel it. Help me to leg of the mentality that I'm the one that has to work to hold onto you. Surround me with your love, that I might rest in the safety of your arms. Amen.
