NYFW Spring 2016 Day 3 Trend Report

Bring on the jewel-tones! Monique Lhuillier sent a stunning & colorful collection down the runway featuring jewel-tones that are typically associated with Fall.  Monique used a print that featured yellow, blue, red, & green flowers. The flowers looked like they were sponge painted, so from a distance, it looked like dots of paint! She also used 3-D appliques to create the flowers on some of the shorter day dresses.

Speaking of prints; stripes were the flavor of the day for Alexander Wang. Wang, who typically showcases a grungy, street-style feel to his garments, stayed trued to his design aesthetic, but let stripes do the talking. Horizontal or vertical, they were very present. His collection was muted of any bright colors, and featured black, gray, white, and blue colors.  Wang  also used mesh, fringe, and leather to further drive home his “from the streets” collection.

Today’s trend report features several awards. The award for the most diversified runway (when it comes to looks) goes to Christian Siriano.  There was a little bit of everything on Christian’s runway from intricate beading, to fringe, to feathers, to bold vibrant colors down to a shades of taupe.  There were cut-outs, shiny fabrics, and matte fabrics, head scarves, and lengths from short to ball gown. Whew! Christian was definitely busy!

The award for best shoes goes to Rebecca Minkoff. Her spin on the gladiator sandal straps were sexy and daring.  The straps worked on both flats and pumps!
