I’m Private, So This Is Uncomfortable!

I’m Private, So This Is Uncomfortable!

{Excerpt from Fashion Devotional found in the
Faith + Fashion Box Quarter 1 2022}

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16 NKJV).

I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like to confess my sins! It doesn’t feel good, and often I just try to throw up a “Hey, God, forgive me of this thing” real quick before I go to sleep so that I don’t have to think about it much. I mean, God does forgive me when I ask, so why does it matter if I just casually throw it out there?

But then I think of the verse in James that says we will find healing when we confess to one another . . . wait, what?! Ugh, so I’m forgiven of what I’ve done, but my healing has to come through talking with someone?

Nope, that’s too much for me! I’m a private person, so I like to keep things, well, private between me and God. He knows anyway, so I can’t hide, but I can make sure no one else knows! I don’t want to confess my sins, my hurt, or any pain that someone else did to me that then created bitterness, judgement, or whatever else in my heart. It’s too much to share my story and relive it again and again.

This is the constant argument in my head when I know I need healing or have an issue I just can’t seem to conquer. I know I’m not alone, but the idea of letting another into my deepest heart issues can be hard and overwhelming. If that’s you, too, I get it!

3 Healing is vital, but it’s not fun . . . at all! At least in the middle of it.

But I know just as much as you do that after we have walked through the waters and gotten to the other side, life is so much better! So why do we fight it so much? I don’t have the answer, but I do want to encourage you and me that the same way we write down our dream steps with our Dream Launcher friends, we also should share the one thing we need healing from too. Because here’s the truth:

In order to reach your dreams, you sometimes need to go through healing so you can be whole and ready for what God has for you. I encourage you today to share one tiny detail with your closest friend who you know will not judge you but will pray for and encourage you. After all, “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous [friend] avails much” (James 5:16).

XOXO,

Heather

We believe we cannot be our best self unless we embrace the beauty of God’s healing power. By walking through and in His grace, we experience healing, strength, peace and restoration ultimately bringing life to others in our family and community. Isaiah 43:2
