Say it Loud, Say it Proud

The healing power of the spoken word

Healing is interesting. It’s something we all need, yet cannot cultivate or produce independently, though we may try. And, oh, how I have tried to will, work, and dismiss my way into healing. Over time, I’ve learned to seek the Lord and pray my way into healing, only to find that, sometimes, even that doesn’t bring healing. Why on God’s green earth would prayer not be effective?

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21 CSB)

The problem certainly isn’t with God’s abilities, because He is exceedingly, abundantly able. If the problem isn’t Him, then it must be me.

The way we approach the Lord is significant. Coming before the Lord and timidly asking for something without believing it is truly going to happen, is about like trying to water ski by staying on the boat.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 CSB)

It takes boldness to obtain grace and mercy, and sometimes God waits patiently for us to find our skis and jump in.

I’ve been known to ask for God to heal something I’m not willing to fully release to Him. You might be shocked to hear that this approach is also not successful in finding healing and relief. Matthew 11:28-30 tells us Jesus wants us to come to Him, and allow Him to carry our burdens and lead us the right way. The passage does not say that He needs our help to do this.

So, how does a girl who’s tempted to take over and prone to skepticism tap into divine healing? I think one of the most powerful and effective ways is to declare healing out loud, in Jesus’ name. Declaring God’s truth, as it pertains to our particular situation, does several things.

First, it calls attention to God, not the situation. So often in times of suffering or illness, it’s the situation that gets our attention, and we need to focus on God in order to see what He is doing.

Second, Proclaiming healing in a situation requires boldness and audacity that just aren’t as easy to come by in your average silent prayer, the same boldness that allows us to obtain grace and mercy.

Finally, declaring healing out loud helps me to truly have faith. When I hear my own voice making bold declarations, somehow any doubts or fears are just squashed.

When you feel your family is under attack, walk around your house telling Satan how unwelcome he is, and reminding Jesus that He is invited to dwell in the hearts and minds of all who dwell there! When walking through a season of suffering, start your day by telling God how capable He is of providing for you, loving you, and healing you! When life feels out of control, declare out loud that God is on the throne, and has it all planned out!

We may not be able to cultivate healing, but we can sure invite it. God is not a genie in a bottle who grants our every wish, but He promises to give us the desires of our hearts. He is not an Insta Pot who creates nourishment in an instant out of a recipe we’ve concocted, He is the great physician who heals us in His time and His ways.

Ladies, say it loud, and say it proud, then watch what He does.

  1. List the ways you usually seek healing.

  2. Are the above methods effective? Why or why not?

  3. Identify one area of your life needing healing. Write a specific declaration of healing about that situation, and boldly read what you wrote out loud.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.. (Ephesians 3:20-21 CSB)

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 CSB)
