She Dreamed She Could So She Is:Showing Up with Godfidence While Achieving Your Dream

Growing up, I’ve always had a love of fashion.  I remember watching my mom get ready for work or church and how she always took special care to look her absolute best.  More importantly, I watched how it made my mom feel. It was as if her personality had changed in an instant all because of what she was wearing. It was during those times young Windy developed a love of fashion and discovered the importance of being your best self and how that plays into who we are as daughters of Christ.

Since 2003, I have lived with chronic illnesses such as fibromyalgia, chronic Lyme disease, and a host of other illnesses. After finally being diagnosed in 2014, I thought my life was over. You see, it was during that time that my love for fashion really took off. I started my own styling business and was in the beginning stages of helping women and men “create a visual representation of who they are inside.” While helping others, God would show me how putting on your favorite lipstick or blouse could have a positive impact on how you feel inside. How you show up. There is a shift in your mind-set and how you see yourself all because of this thing called fashion. It’s a beautiful thing to watch!

In my own life, I struggle sometimes to get out of bed. I notice that when I push myself to get dressed I instantly feel a switch in how I feel mentally. I may not feel any better physically, but I notice my spirit is lifted, I don’t feel as low in my soul and for a moment I forget about my circumstances and become overwhelmed by the love of God and how He sees me. We are daughters of Christ and who He says we are and how He sees us is really all that matters. Our identity and our confidence (God-fidence) should only be found in Him.

As women, it’s easy for us to take care of those we love; however, I believe it’s equally important for us to take care of ourselves. Doing so allows us to show up well for others, and I believe that fashion can be a catalyst for becoming who God created us to be.

Proverbs 31:25 reminds us that “strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future” (NASB). As daughters of Christ, we can dream big and show up well through fashion, knowing He is with us, guiding us along the way. Our true identity can only be found in Him. So don’t be afraid to put on your favorite outfit or your favorite pair of shoes and hold your head up high. We can smile through the rough seasons in our lives with confidence while looking amazing, fulfilling the dream God placed in our heart.

  1. As a daughter of Christ, how can fashion allow you to show up with confidence (Godfidence) while becoming the best version of yourself?

  2. What first step will you take today in order to invest in yourself through fashion?

  3. How will you hold yourself accountable to achieving your goal?

"And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord."

(Luke 1:45 ESV)

She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.

(Proverbs 31:16–17 ESV)

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future.

(Proverbs 31:25 NASB)
