The Art of Becoming Your Best Self

Last year during the pandemic, I thought about the word becoming a lot and how it might be relevant during a pandemic when we are told we have to stop living life in a sense. How can you become when life is on hold in so many areas?

I had other questions too: How can I trust God when there are so many unknowns? How can I go through the process of trusting Him when I don’t even see a glimmer of hope on the other side?

Through 2020 and even this year, we’ve continued to pivot and take the time to lean into what God is saying, now, in this season. It’s been very obvious to me, even from the very beginning of the pandemic, that God can and will use everything in our lives, including a slower pace of life.

In fact, a slower pace might be just what we need in order to focus in on some past hurts that might be holding us back.

Healing is our second core principle at Created Woman and one we take very seriously because, without it, we stop becoming. We just get stuck. By walking through it,though,we come out on the other side with fresh vision, clearer perspective, and greater purpose.

Think about this: When you go to the spa or maybe sit down to have your hair or nails done, it’s a slow process. There really isn’t a fast way to get all of those knots out of your back that have built up over time. So instead, you sit or lie down and let the professionals take you through the process.

In justthe same way, the Bible tells us,in Isaiah 43:2,that when we pass through the waters, the rivers, and the fire,He will be with us. It doesn’t say run, avoid, or walk aroundthose obstacles. What I find most interesting is that in just seventeen short verses later, one of the most famous verses we all quote is waiting for us on the other side. It reads,

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19NIV)

But we only get there after going through the process—it might take seventeen verses to get there, but it’s there!

This month,as we walk through healing, it may feel like you will never get through it, so I want to encourage to do 2 things:

  1. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

  2. Ask Him to help you see the new thing that is springing up.

Because that is the art of becoming!

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.(Isaiah 43:2 NIV)
