Yikes, This is New

And I'm Not Sure What To Do

This past year, there have been some new and unchartered waters for me.  Although my "titles" in life have not changed, the assurance of knowing what to do in each one has not been so clear. For years, I have poured myself into learning and growing more in the confidence of who I am in Christ. Because of my identity in Him,  I knew He was my helper who directed my every step. Honestly, it became a time of feeling comfortable.

But now the season has changed and the steps are not so natural for me. Yes, I am still a mom, but to a 16 and 12-year-old, which needs a whole new parenting book.  Instead of saying "get in the car and let's go," I now say, "bye, be careful" and whisper a prayer, as my daughter drives off.  I now have a son who no longer needs me at bedtime and only kisses me goodnight on his way to his room with questions only a 7th-grade boy would ask.  I am still a coach and presenter, but in a new corporate environment with new systems and ways of doing things.  Now, don't get me wrong, I love the changes, opportunities, and growth I am seeing in myself, my children and my marriage. It's fun and exciting, despite also learning how to navigate through the COVID 19 Virus.

As I walk through unchartered waters, I find myself seeking God more for answers to questions that were natural for me at one time to answer.  And in His loving way, He quickly reminds me that He was the one who guided me when I first stepped into those roles.  His gentle whisper to me in the morning refreshes my identity in him with confidence that He is my helper who will guide my steps.

For I am the Lord, your God who takes hold of your right and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. . (Isaiah 41:13 NIV)

In this new season, my husband and I are learning how to guide the new world of teenagers.   I am enjoying using my experience and knowledge the Lord has given me as a coach in a new environment, while learning new things.  Although the seasons may change, my identity in Christ will never change. And because of my identity, I am confident that I have a helper who will direct my steps just as He has done so many times in the past.

If the Lord delights in a man's ways, he makes his steps firm (Psalms 37:23)

Reflection

1.     Are you currently having to learn to identify with a new season or role in life?

2.     How are you seeking the Lord for guidance during this time?

3.     What steps can you take to build confidence in knowing God is your shepherd?

Goals

What are three things you can begin to do to grow more confident in your identity in Christ and his guidance for you?

For I am the Lord, your God who takes hold of your right and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. . (Isaiah 41:13 NIV)
