Run Your Race, Until You Sprain Your Ankle

In the fall of 2019 I took a fall – for real! That’s how the end of my October 2019 ended – laid up on the couch with a sprained ankle and crutches. Something you might not know about me is that I danced and taught dance until I was thirty-five years old and it was great! I got my exercise in a way that didn’t feel like exercise, be creative and tell stories through movement and build teams. One of my favorite things to do was to take a piece of music, choreograph with someone and bring a story to life through movement,  so that others could enjoy and have an experience that moved them or was thought provoking – hopefully it moved them towards Jesus even more, too. I miss those days sometimes.

But, in all my years of dance, I never once broke or sprained anything and I have literally been tossed to and fro in the air on multiple occasions without injury.

In the midst of it all, we were actually studying on the principle of Health at CW so I began to wonder, how do I focus on living Healthy and running my race well, If I’m forced out of commission?

For a doer like me, it was okay for a day or so having my kids and husband help me and do nice things for me, but after a couple of days, I was tired from NOT running. I got bored and found myself asking ‘why now?’

Granted, I was able to work a lot from my computer, but knowing you can’t get up and go was very strange for me – I couldn’t even drive. But, in the midst, I felt a sense of rest and began to embrace that I could put my feet up, read and ask for a glass of water.

What I discovered was that sometimes running your race is more of a pace instead of a sprint. And, although I’m still running while I sit on my bed, my pace looks different – at least for a while.

So, my question is, “What does your pace look like in this season?” Take notice of what’s happening in your life, your family’s life and work. Maybe it’s time to sprint or maybe it’s time to find a slower pace. It might even be time to hand off the baton in the relay.

What’s your pace in today’s race?

Xoxo,

Heather

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us
