Giving Birth

Ninety years ago today, December 23, 1923, Ethel Brimlow, gave birth to my mother, Faye, who I might add, still lives alone.  As she puts it:  “It’s just me and Jesus.”  She, in turn, gave birth to me, Martha, her only child.  What an honor God gave me when He chose me to be the birth mom of Crystal and Heather who brought into my life my three grandchildren - Hannah, Zach, and Hadley. So, there you have it; my family’s lineage that now has 4 living generations.  Perhaps, as you are reading this, you are reminiscing the births in your own family tree. There is nothing like the birth of a child.  We quickly pick up the phone, get on Facebook, Twitter, and shout it from the courthouse square: “My baby has arrived,” we announce.

There is one set of parents who were not afforded the vast means of communication that we have today of announcing their child’s birth, and yet it was the greatest news of all time, the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Perhaps God planned it that way!

You see, God used a very insignificant way of getting the announcement out.  Instead of first announcing the Savior’s birth to important kings and nobles, God sent His angel to make the announcement to lowly shepherds tending their flock in the field.

That night, some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly an angel appeared among them, and the landscape shone bright with the glory of the Lord.  They were badly frightened, but the angel reassured them.  “Don’t be afraid,” he said.  “I bring you the most joyful news ever announced, and it is for everyone! The Savior – yes, the Messiah, the Lord – has been born tonight in Bethlehem!”  (Luke 2:8-11)

From that meager announcement of our Savior’s birth, “the good news of the gospel” has now been spread to the four corners of the earth. Oh yes, God uses ordinary people like you and me to announce His birth and tell of His love, one by one.  Perhaps God planned it that way!

And now, the reason you are reading this post is because of another birthing that took place 4 years ago - - Created Woman Website and Magazine.  Less you think I am being sacrilegious writing about an inanimate object during a time of celebrating the birth of Jesus, let me explain.

When Jesus was ascending back into heaven, He wanted His work on earth to continue, so He placed gifts within each of us to fulfill this purpose. Using the gifts He placed within Heather Frierson, the founder of Created Woman Magazine and the whole team who faithfully works with her, we try to encourage women to become all that God created them to be.

How about you?  Have you had a dream to be an author, fashion designer, school teacher, fitness designer, dancer, beautician, or __________?   Perhaps God planned for you to give birth to that dream!

From the whole team at Created Woman Magazine, we wish you a Merry Christmas.
