Time to Un-Pack

I live with boxes packed in a half-furnished home because I want to be "ready" when God calls me to move on to the next big thing. There's always one foot out the door. I don't even try to throw down roots, for fear of having to dig them up and plant elsewhere.

Maybe a bit of complacency at the heart of it.

Most people are familiar with Jeremiah 29:11. "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

However, it's a scripture before this, that recently got my attention.

"Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce," Jeremiah 29:5.

How do you like that? If it's His will, I have no doubt He'll move us, but the plan is to STAY.

It hit me like a ton of bricks. If we continue to look ahead, we'll miss all the spectacular things right before our eyes.

Just where are we rushing to anyhow? And once we've arrived, then what?

We're assigned to our cities, our states, our neighborhoods for a reason: to plant and reap a harvest. That may require un-sealing the boxes at the doorstep to get the seeds from within.

Heavenly Father,

Help quiet my spirit. Settle me down, Lord. Please, settle me down. Show me how to enjoy each moment and give me strength to "un-pack". Afterall, YOU know the good plans you have for me.

In Jesus' mighty name I pray, amen.
